As it made its way around the sun and is now headed back towards earth´s orbit, earth will 100% go through the tail of Comet ISON for approximately 7-10 days in mid January at the latest. It will be closest to earth on December 24-26 and the tail has widened and is ranging approximately 16 million km long. At an average speed of 2 million KM per day that is a minimum of 7-8 days in the main stream of the tail debris, and months following that as debris from space will always be in the path of earth.
